“My Bourne”
Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude,” says Thomas Jefferson. Having said this quotation, we must first know the meaning of a goal in order to fully understand and give relevance to the said quotation. “A goal is a result or achievement toward which effort is directed” (Goal, n.d.). It could also be defined as the anticipated result which guides reaction, or an end which is an object, either a physical object or an abstract object that has intrinsic value. It is important for a person to set goals in order to make progress and to be able to help them work towards their objectives. Setting goals entails intention, desire and acquisition of knowledge.
In order to pass or better yet, ace my writing course, English Communication or Englcom, I need to set certain goals. These goals will help me grow and develop not only as a student, but as a writer as well. One of my goals for Englcom is to become a better writer. I want to improve my writing skills so that I can create better outputs such as, essays, articles, stories and poems. I want to be able to develop and practice the writing skills that I have learned in class. Another goal that I want to achieve for this course is to be able to understand and apply everything that my professor will teach me. Given that this course will teach me different skills and strategies to improve my writing, I want to be able to maximize those skills and strategies by the end of the semester. I also want to see how much I have improved since the start of the school year.
I know that it would not be possible for me to achieve the goals that I mentioned above if I do not work towards accomplishing them and so one of the ways for me to achieve my goals for Englcom is to actively participate during class discussions. I must listen and take in everything that my professor will discuss. One more way to achieve my goals is to study well. I should learn how to manage my time wisely and to prioritize my studies. Even if some people may say that Englcom is quite an easy subject or course, I should still learn to prioritize it. Lastly, I must always keep practicing on writing so that I will be able to master all the skills that I have and will learn about writing. Since we are required to write our essays through a blog or online writing, I must do my best to apply the skills that I have learned through my blog.
Setting goals for my writing course is easy, the difficulty lies on working towards my goals. I must carry out all of the ways to accomplishing my goals and I believe that if I work hard and if I do everything that I can, I will be able to achieve each and every one of my goals for Englcom.
